BOSS OIL for Hot Bearing Emergencies

Stabilizes and minimizes the increasing oil temperature and mitigates destructive component wear

BOSS OIL is designed to be an immediate and temporary treatment for “hot bearings” for trunnion bearings. The use of BOSS OIL helps to stabilize and minimize the increasing oil temperature and mitigate destructive component wear.

BOSS OIL’s emergency oil additives enhance the load carrying properties of the service oil to reduce friction and wear of the bearing components. BOSS OIL is compatible with both petroleum and synthetic-based lubricants and may be used indefinitely, or as needed.

How to Use BOSS OIL

When the unit is in operation, pour BOSS OIL directly into the bearing fill port to mix with the service oil. BOSS OIL works to reduce the oil temperature and give the plant time to correct the issue, allowing the plant to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in trunnion bearing repair.

This product applies quickly when time is of the essence. As little as one to two quarts of our emergency oil additive can prevent an emergency kiln shutdown.

BOSS OIL In Action

Field Test: Trunnion bearings overheated

Critical Situation  | How to cool and get under control overheated bearing without shutting down the kiln.
The Solution
Immediately add 1 quart in bearing portal directly on roller shaft. If after 5 minutes add another quart.
Result
After 1 quart added bearing temperature is lowered allowing plant to gain control again. Shutdown was avoided.

Typical cost of bearing failure

Catastrophic
  • Cost of Liquidated Damages:
    5 x $35,000.00 = $175,000.00
  • Cost of Bearing Materials:
    2 x $5,000.00 = $10,000.00
  • Services to Install:
    1 x $90,000 = $90,000.00
Increased / Untimely
Shutdown
  • TOTAL REPAIR COST = $275,000.00

*Forced 5 day shutdown

Overview

Trunnion Bearing Fluid’s normal operating oil temperatures range from approximately 120F to 190F. Bearing misalignment or severe loading conditions can result in trunnion bearing fluids running above normal operating temperature. Additional factors as high kiln shell temperatures, insufficient cooling and contaminated oil can all result in elevated lubricant temperatures. Trunnion Bearing Fluids that are in a “HOT BEARING” will begin to lose various lubrication characteristics resulting in damaging wear to the components until the mechanical problem is resolved. Without immediate action, bearing can be damaged in as little as 15 minutes. Damages are both incurred in (liquidated) down operations and lost revenue. Damaged bearing liner can cause 1-week downtime.

Solution

Boss Oil is designed to be an immediate and temporary treatment for “hot bearings”. This “Hot Bearing Emergency Oil Additive” for Kiln Bearings is poured into the bearing fill port while the unit is in operation and mixes with the service oil. Boss Oil will stabilize and minimize the increasing oil temperature and mitigate the destructive component wear. Boss Oil will coat the shaft and bushing while mixing with the service oil. Boss will enhance the load carrying properties of the service oil to reduce friction and wear of bearing components. This product is compatible with both petroleum and synthetic hydro-carbon lubricants and may be used indefinitely or as needed. Please note, that Boss will not repair any prior damage done to bearing liners. This additive does not change any requirements of OEM scheduled oil replacement or oil analysis recommendations. When your bearing gets hot, “Only Trust the Boss!”
