Grease Reference
Grease is a semi-fluid, semi-solid that
delivers lubrication to a moving part or system of moving
parts. Its uses are many, but it is predominately
in industrial applications. It can be used in automotive applications
such as trucks or buses.
Grease consists of a thickener that
suspends the semi-fluid or oil that is composed of base oil
and performance additives. There are two kinds of greases:
Commodity greases that are multi-purpose and are low costing;
and High-specification greases that contain expensive additives
to meet demanding performance specifications.
Greases are then separated into consistency
grades. Consistency is the ability of lubricating greases
to resist deformation under a specific load. Below is a table
outlining the different consistency grades.
