EASY BAR®
Rotary Kiln Lubricant
Crescent KTL-100 Installation Instructions
Prior to inserting 5/8" Easy
Bar into your kiln you should measure your creep at each
pier to determine the optimal number of easy bars to
insert in a
given time period.
True Creep is the amount of creep originally
designed into the Kiln.
Creep is the amount of slip in the gap between
the inside bore of the tire and outside surface of the
kiln shell or filler bars.
To calculate your True Creep measure the gap
between the inside tire bore and the filler bars at the
12 o'clock position. Once you determine this number,
multiply it by 3 to determine your true creep.
A reading should be taken at each tire to assess the
actual amount of creep that is occurring.
The goal is to maintain at least "true creep"
at each tire to minimize wear to your kiln.
The actual obtainable creep
maybe less than the true creep due to cold welding or
excess friction between the tire and filler bar
surfaces.
Initial
application interval:
The kiln should be at operating temperature before
applying! One
Easy Bar is manually placed every ¼ revolution (4 per
application) between filler pads at the 5 or 7 o'clock
positions. Application
should be made on the "uphill" side in the
"outbound" direction of the tire or riding ring for
proper lubrication.
Caution: Avoid
any excess of Easy Bar from coming in contact with the
surface of the trunnion/carrying rolls.
Ongoing
application:
The application interval is dictated by maintaining
tire creep. Add
as many bars as required to maintain at least true
creep.
Since each kiln or dryer is unique, the application
amount may vary from pier to pier due to operating
temperature and equipment tolerances.
The lubricator must monitor the amount of creep
and determine the proper amount to use and adjust
application as needed.
For
kilns without filler pads:
One Easy Bar should be placed at top dead center, at
¼ rotation intervals, for one full revolution when kiln
is at operating temperature.
